Sara M. Hunt, LCSW, Individual Child, Teen, and Adult Therapist

About Me

I grew up in the Tri-Valley area and feel honored to serve my community as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

I am passionate about mental health care that is accessible, supportive, and helps empower you to feel better, experience meaningful growth, and achieve your goals.

When I’m not working, you can find me reading (mostly mysteries and thrillers), dabbling in arts and crafts, walking or cuddling with my Lab, and enjoying music in all forms (concerts, local live music, and singing!)

Qualifications

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California, LCSW #127711.

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz (2012) and a Master's of Social Work from California State University, East Bay (2016). I became independently licensed in 2024.

Experience

I have a over 13 years of experience in the behavioral and mental health field.

I have provided in-home behavior therapy and supervision of treatment plans for children with behavioral disorders, school-based mental health including Individual Education Plan (IEP) related counseling, community mental health treatment, and early childhood mental health including play therapy for children 6 and younger, parent and teacher support, mental health consultation and training, and preschool social skills groups.

I have been providing counseling in a private-practice setting for teens and adults for the past 1.5 years.

Treatment Approach

I believe that counseling is a team effort. Sessions with me plant the seeds of change that you will water and tend to outside of the therapy space. I am here to listen, ask questions, share observations, and provide tools and strategies you can try at home to help you move forward in a positive and healthy way.

I also think of counseling as a safe and supportive space for you to slow down a bit to think through challenges and “just be” with painful experiences with a supportive person in a way that you may not have the time, space, or support to do in your daily life.

I know that counseling can sometimes feel like work. It’s something you have to find time for in your already busy life. Sometimes it’s just not fun to talk about painful experiences or try to change unhelpful patterns you may feel stuck in. My approach is to bring lightness, humor, hope, and a little bit of joy to this process.
